Author Guidelines
Trends in Optimal Medical Outcomes (TOMO) welcomes the submission of high-quality manuscripts for publication. We aim to publish research that advances knowledge and understanding of optimal medical outcomes, offering readers valuable insights into clinical practices, healthcare technologies, and patient-centered care. To ensure your manuscript meets the journal’s standards, please follow these guidelines carefully.
Types of Manuscripts
We accept the following types of manuscripts:
- Original Research Articles: These are original research manuscripts. The work should report scientifically sound experiments and provide a substantial amount of new information. The article should include the most recent and relevant references in the field. The structure should include an Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions (optional) sections.
- Review Articles: Reviews offer a comprehensive analysis of the existing literature within a field of study, identifying current gaps or problems. They should be critical and constructive and provide recommendations for future research. No new, unpublished data should be presented. The structure can include an Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Relevant Sections, Discussion, Conclusions, and Future Directions.
- Case Studies: should include a succinct introduction about the general medical condition or relevant symptoms that will be discussed in the case report; the case presentation including all of the relevant de-identified demographic and descriptive information about the patient(s), and a description of the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome; a discussion providing context and any necessary explanation of specific treatment decisions; a conclusion briefly outlining the take-home message and the lessons learned. The structure can include an Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Case Presentation, Discussion, and Conclusions
Submission Process
- Online Submission: All manuscripts must be submitted through the TOMO online submission system. Ensure that all required information is filled out during the submission process.
- Cover Letter: A cover letter must accompany your submission. The letter should include:
- The manuscript’s title
- A brief explanation of the study’s significance and why it fits within the scope of TOMO
- Confirmation that the manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere
- Any conflicts of interest
Manuscript Preparation
Your manuscript must adhere to the following formatting requirements:
- File Format: Submit the manuscript in Microsoft Word or LaTeX format.
- Font: Use Times New Roman, size 12 for the main text, with 1.5 line spacing.
- Margins: Set margins to 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
- Page Numbering: Number pages consecutively starting from the title page.
Sections of the Manuscript:
Title Page:
- Title of the manuscript (concise and informative)
- Full names of all authors with institutional affiliations
- Corresponding author’s contact details (email address and phone number)
- Keywords (up to 5 keywords related to the research)
Abstract:
- Provide a structured abstract (150-250 words), summarizing the objectives, methods, results, and conclusions of the study.
- For research articles, include the following subheadings: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Main Text:
- Organize the manuscript into the following sections: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion.
- Introduction: Briefly describe the background, research problem, and objectives of the study.
- Methods: Provide a detailed description of the research design, materials, methods, data collection, and analysis.
- Results: Present the key findings of your study with relevant tables, figures, and statistical analysis.
- Discussion: Interpret the results, compare them with previous studies, and discuss their implications.
- Conclusion: Summarize the key findings and suggest future directions or applications.

Follow the Vancouver Style:
- Contain the following elements in order: Author(s), Article title, Journal Title Abbreviation, Date of Publication, Volume and Issue number, Location (Pagination).
- Author or Authors, last name and initial(s) separated by a comma and space and ending with a period.
- List names in the order they appear in the text
- Convert given (first) names and middle names to initials, for a maximum of two initials following each surname
- Include all the authors listed for the article
- Article title in sentence case followed by a period.
- Journal title abbreviation followed by a period.
- Four-digit year of publication followed by semi-colon.
- Journal volume number followed by issue number in brackets, followed by a colon.
- Page range, hyphenated, followed by a period. (Page numbers are not repeated. For example, 452-468 would become 452-68 or 241-248 would become 241-8).
- Most articles are assigned a digital object identifier or DOI. If a DOI is available, include it at the end of the reference. They are cited in the format of doi:10.xxxxxxxxx.

Figures and Tables:
- Submit figures and tables separately from the main text.
- Provide captions for all figures and tables.
- Ensure figures are of high quality (at least 300 DPI) and are legible.
- Tables should be concise and must be formatted clearly in the manuscript file.
Ethical Considerations
- Ethical Approval: For studies involving human participants, authors must provide a statement confirming that the study was approved by the relevant ethics committee and that informed consent was obtained from participants.
- Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of the study.
- Plagiarism: TOMO uses plagiarism detection software. Authors must ensure their manuscript is free from plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and any unethical practices.
Open Access and Copyright
- All articles published in TOMO are open access and available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Authors retain copyright to their work, but they agree to provide appropriate attribution to TOMO and to share their research freely.
- Authors may reuse their work in other publications, presentations, or dissertations with proper citation.
Peer Review and Revision
- All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process. Authors will receive feedback from reviewers and are expected to make revisions based on their comments. The final decision on acceptance or rejection will be based on the reviewers' recommendations.
Revisions and Resubmission
- If your manuscript is returned for revisions, authors must submit a detailed response to reviewers’ comments along with the revised manuscript.
- Revised manuscripts should be resubmitted via the online submission system.
Publication Charges
- TOMO is an open-access journal, and there may be publication fees associated with accepted articles. Authors will be informed of any applicable charges upon acceptance of their manuscript.
