Peer Review Process
At Trends in Optimal Medical Outcomes (TOMO), we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity and quality. To achieve this, we adhere to a rigorous peer review process that ensures the publication of credible, impactful, and reliable research. Our peer review process is designed to provide constructive feedback, promote academic rigor, and maintain transparency and fairness throughout.
Step 1: Submission
- Authors submit their manuscripts through our online submission system. Upon receipt, the manuscript is checked for compliance with the journal’s guidelines, including formatting and ethical standards.
Step 2: Initial Evaluation
- The editorial team conducts an initial review to assess the relevance, quality, and originality of the submission. This includes checking whether the manuscript fits within the journal's scope and whether the research methodology is sound.
- Manuscripts that meet the basic requirements are then sent for peer review.
Step 3: Peer Review
- TOMO follows a double-blind peer review process, where both the identities of the authors and the reviewers are kept anonymous to ensure an unbiased review.
- We select expert reviewers from our pool of qualified professionals in relevant fields of healthcare, medical outcomes, and clinical research. Reviewers are chosen based on their expertise in the subject matter of the submitted manuscript.
- Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on the following criteria:
- Originality and significance of the research
- Relevance to the journal’s focus and scope
- Clarity and structure of the manuscript
- Soundness of the research methodology and analysis
- Quality and validity of the conclusions
- Ethical considerations (if applicable)
Step 4: Reviewer Feedback and Decision
- After reviewing the manuscript, the peer reviewers provide detailed feedback, which may include suggestions for improvement or revisions. Based on the reviewers' comments, the editorial team makes one of the following decisions:
- Accept: The manuscript is accepted for publication with no or minimal revisions.
- Minor Revision: The manuscript requires some revisions to address specific issues or improve clarity, but it is likely to be accepted after changes are made.
- Major Revision: The manuscript requires substantial revisions before it can be considered for publication.
- Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal's standards or is outside the scope of the journal.
Step 5: Author Revision
- Authors are provided with the reviewers' comments and are asked to revise their manuscript accordingly. Authors are expected to address all comments in a clear and detailed manner, providing explanations for any changes made or justifications if a suggestion is not incorporated.
- Revised manuscripts are resubmitted to the journal for further evaluation by the editors and possibly the original reviewers.
Step 6: Final Decision
- The editorial team, with input from the reviewers, makes a final decision regarding the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript. If accepted, the manuscript is scheduled for publication in the upcoming issue of TOMO.
Step 7: Post-Publication
- Once published, the article is made available to the academic community and the general public under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), ensuring open access and wide dissemination.
Throughout the peer review process, TOMO ensures transparency, fairness, and confidentiality. Our goal is to foster academic collaboration, uphold the integrity of scientific publishing, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of medical outcomes.
